Frisbee Golf

A few months ago, our good friends introduced us to frisbee golf.   They showed us where a local course is and we had such a good time, that we couldn't wait to go back.

Knowing that we wanted to play more, the Reid family got us a set of good frisbees for Christmas.  As soon as we had a free evening, we headed to the park to show off our mad frisbee golf skills.  It turns out that Bryant and Parker are the only good frisbee throwers in our family - I guess that means we'll have to practice a lot!

Erin's frisbee landed down a hill and Parker offered to get it for her - what a nice brother!

Parker ended up beating us all - but Bryant wants a rematch SOON!

The LA tourists

One of my least favorite places to go has always been LA.  So, naturally, my children have hardly seen much of the area.  Over Christmas break, we decided to become LA tourists for a day.  We came up with some cool places we wanted to see, and mapped out our day.

Our first stop was China Town.  It was like being in another country - and it smelled like it, too (we were too chicken to eat anything there).  We checked out the sights, got our souvenirs, and left once our bellies couldn't handle being hungry anymore.

We thought that we would find something to eat before our next stop, but not much is right off the freeway in downtown LA.  So we went to our next destination, the Santa Monica Pier.  None of us had ever been there before.  It was crazy crowded, but so cool!  While we were there, we discovered an amazing burger stand, PierBurger.  It ranks in the top of our favorite burger restaurants now!  After eating, we cruised the pier - it's huge!  There's a roller coaster, ferris wheel, arcade, shopping, restaurants, and tons of people all on the enormous pier.  It was definitly worth checking out.  We almost rode the roller coaster, but the kids decided the line was too long and that it cost too much (only $5/ride).

This really cool room is at the end of the pier.

Our last stop of the day was at the LA Temple.  We wanted to see the Christmas lights and tour the visitor center.  It was the perfect end to a wonderful day!

Merry Christmas

The other day, Parker was talking about his favorite days of the year.  Christmas was his obvious first choice, but his second favorite surprised me - he said it was Christmas Eve.  We are a family of traditions, we do the same things each year, and on Christmas Eve, we get to spend lots of time with our California family.  The "other Chases" and Dee usually come to our house and the kids get lots of cousin time.  We eat yummy food - including a ham dinner, play games, watch Christmas videos, reflect on the birth of our Savior, and open presents (our favorite ones are our pajamas).  This year we had a wonderful time and even were able to include Grandma Sue and Grandpa Jerry via Skype.

We got a smile from everyone - that was our Christmas miracle :)

All ready for Christmas morning

Christmas morning was a bit different this year since it is a Sunday.  We practically had to pull the kids out of bed to get ready for church and eat breakfast (our kids truly appreciate their sleep and aren't early Christmas risers).  We had planned on opening stockings before church, but ran out of time.  Church was wonderful and we heard great talks and music.  I think I really like Christmas being on Sunday!  After church, we came home, put our pajamas back on (everyone except Rick), and got down to business opening presents.

After everything was opened and cleaned up, it was time to play......Parker discovered these blocks when we were at the science museum in San Diego.

We are especially grateful this year for our health, amazing family and friends, and for our Savior, Jesus Christ.  Merry Christmas everyone!

Visiting Santa Claus

Sometimes we long for the days when our children were young and excited about little things - like visiting Santa Claus.  This year, we persuaded (forced) them to visit Santa during our annual Knott's Berry Farm trip.     The only salvageable picture taken was one with Erin's friend, Ashlee.
Maybe since they don't "believe" anymore, "Santa" doesn't need to come to our house ;)
